“Tiny Bassist”
Long time no tumble (here, at least). Here’s another original recorded in my house on the laptop’s built-in mic. I’m still getting the hang of having recording-level rhythm. I seem to have an easier time playing along with an actual drumbeat than with a metronome, but in this case I put the drums in after the guitars. For the most part it worked, but there were a few spots where it got way off. Unfortunately, the rest of the song came together too well to just rerecord it, but through the magic of Garage Band I was able to hack out some of the worst flubs and make others sound intentional (I hope).
At least it rocks, right?

“Sex in Violence”
Here’s another written and recorded for the Summer of .45 soundtrack. This might be the best work I’ve done recording-wise, and was a blast. I got to wail on both of my electrics during the epic part at the end. I’m also finally getting the hang of doing drums via musical typing.
This just makes way too much sense.
My Hot GF came down to visit this past week, and in honor of that I’m posting the Cthulhu iPod cozy she knitted for me as a Christmas present. And she did this fully realizing that she was only enabling my overwhelming geekiness. I keep telling her she needs to go into business selling these things.

“Nice Day for a Massacre”
This one isn’t Lovecraft-related, but I did like how it came out. This was written as part of the soundtrack to The Summer of .45, a film I also did a little acting in (you can see me standing heroically on the News page of the website). I’ve been going for an “urban epic” vibe for the score. I’m hoping this ends up in a scene where… well, there’s a massacre.

“Lovecraft in Brooklyn”
This is a cover of an awesome song by the Mountain Goats. I put a fair amount of effort into making this demo sound relatively professional, which hopefully helped me as a wanna-be musician. The vocals and guitars are live tracks, while the drums are Garage Band musical typing. I think it turned out rather well, but I’m definitely still learning my way around the production process.

A little tomfoolery to start this tumblr off right. This is me reading the first page of “Pickman’s Model” by the one and only H.P. Lovecraft, with some Garage Band special effects and piano thrown in. I’m toying with the idea of doing the entire story this way.
